Help / without spoilers
A missing save, a quiet voice or a code that will not open. Let’s get you back to the part you came for.
01 / A little assistance
Choose a question. We’ll start with the simplest checks.
Use Hint on the puzzle page for a nudge. Re-read the instruction and check the evidence it mentions before taking another hint.
Not sure how a control works? Our How to play guide shows the book, the workshop and the Options menu without giving away solutions.
The Apprentice’s Test is free to play. Sign in to save across devices, or play as a guest in the same browser and device.
Playing as a guest? Return using the same browser, device and website address. Guest progress is kept in that browser; clearing its data can remove it.
Do not clear your browser data, reset the game or start again to recover a missing run. If a saved edition is unavailable, keep the record and contact support.
Code redemption is not open on the public website. Keep your code private; the free Apprentice’s Test does not need one.
The free Apprentice’s Test needs no code. Codes and printed-file downloads do not bypass a game’s preparation checks.
Check your connection and wait a moment before trying again. Some games need an online answer service even when the page is already open.
If the problem continues, reload once and choose Resume if offered. Do not clear browser data. If you see an error message, keep its wording for a report, leaving out any answers or private codes.
Check your device volume and the browser tab’s mute setting. In the game’s Options, turn on Voice-over; it is separate from background sound. Choose Listen on a passage with narration, then use Pause and Resume as needed.
The complete written story is available without sound. For larger reading text, see the display controls in How to play.
Start with Make room for the mystery on your game’s page. The free Apprentice’s Test needs no printer, Codex or physical tools.
Find available files and edition notes in the Library. The Codex and shared tools will list single-colour and multicolour downloads as public editions become available. PDFs are paper documents; STL and 3MF files are for 3D printing. Follow the instructions supplied with that exact edition.
Missing a required file, or unsure which version fits? Stop before printing or ordering it. No printer? Find out how a maker could help.
The common room
Some discoveries are better shared. Find extra help, compare making notes and follow the next mystery with The Printed Secret community.
Keep the mystery for the next player: no answers, guesses, access codes or personal details in public posts. The in-game hints are always a good place to start, and you never need a social account to play. Community links open in a new tab.
02 / Something isn’t working
In the game, choose Something isn’t working on the title screen, or Help while playing. Try the recovery steps first; no report is required to keep playing.
If you report a problem, tell us which game you were playing, your browser and what happened. Leave out puzzle answers, access codes and private story replies.
